Artist Biography:

Amy Voss grew up in Houston, TX and is a graduate of Southern Methodist University. After graduating from SMU, Amy worked in  the music industry as a record promoter for Lyric Street Records  and an Affiliate Relations Director for ESPN Radio and the ABC  Television Network. After leaving her 10yr corporate career to  take on the challenges of motherhood, Amy found a passion in  glass art. With her lifelong love of music, Amy began focusing  her efforts on a particular canvas: the body of an acoustic guitar.  The guitar became a natural fit for her bold and edgy work. A  self taught artist, Amy’s signature style of creating one-of-kind  glass art sculptures using acoustic guitars as her canvas, led her  to launch Glass Axes in 2009. Her guitar sculptures hang on the  walls of hotels, restaurants, private homes and offices belonging  to several renowned music industry and sports execs, and  musical artists including Katy Perry. Amy lives in Dallas, TX with  her son and husband.

Each guitar created is unique and one of a kind.

While considering a theme for an art piece depicting introspection my initial thoughts were to turn inward to observe my own mental and emotional processes. During the recent times of uncertainty that we have all been going through I imagine that each and everyone of us has been taking stock and asking ourselves many internal questions. It’s been a time of solitude and a time of seeking. 

During this contemplation my mind wandered momentarily to a time when I was in California driving through the areas of Sonoma county that had been ravaged by wildfires. It was a heartbreaking sight to absorb. Acres of burnt out forest holding on to the earth, weakened and charred. I stopped my car to look around, it was deadly silent, once where there would have been wildlife scurrying around there was nothing but a lull. As I stood there I began to look closer, amidst all the devastation I could see bright green shoots peeking out from cracks in tree trunks, pushing up and poking through the crispy debris on the ground, buoyant and dancing in the sunlight. My sadness turned into delight at this beautiful sight of renewal, rebirth and resilience. I was mesmerized by the glory of nature and it’s ability to rebuild and start again. 

It occurred to me that it’s how we show up in this world that matters. It’s how we continue to create and endeavor to be the best version of ourselves through the good times and the bad times. 

“Mother Earth” is about the beauty of this planet that we all reside on. It’s about how we as humanity are all a part of its glory and maybe all that we need to do is remember our own strength, our own resilience, our own brightness and our own ability as a species to rebuild and regrow. 

Fear should have no place in this world, we are all here as one and we are greater and more abundant than we allow ourselves to feel or believe.

Layers of wood laminated together then sculpted to build this beautifully designed artwork by Sculptor Kim Ward.  The sculpture stands 36x24 and is on exhibit in the gallery, available for purchase online.  

The abstract painting is encased in resin and framed with an acrylic mat and black frame to showcase the 27 X 27" artwork.  The encaustic painting provides a 3D effect with metallic elements, mounted with the acrylic mat behind the painting.  The frame is placed around the acrylic mat, providing a visual of the wall color behind the artwork. 

This unique framing technique enhances traditional to modern design for residential home or commercial design, cobalt blue - aqua and silver pewter tones included.

Unique to modern design in art this round acrylic painting is painting on acrylic board - 24" in diameter - original painting includes ocean blue, ocean green, aqua turquoise, white with layers of resin and acrylic ink.
